Paver Cleaning Is Not Just Concrete Cleaning
Pavers look like flatwork but behave nothing like a poured slab. Each unit is separate, and what holds the installation stable is the sand packed into the joints between them. Clean pavers carelessly and you blow that sand out — which is how a cleaned patio ends up with shifting, rocking and weed growth six months later.
In Jacksonville the usual complaint is a paver pool deck or patio that has gone flat and grey, with green algae in the low spots, weeds and ant hills coming up through the joints, and a chalky white haze in patches. That haze is typically efflorescence — mineral salts migrating to the surface — and it is a separate problem from dirt.

Will pressure washing ruin my paver joints?
It can, at the wrong pressure or the wrong angle — that is precisely why joint sand replacement is part of a proper paver service rather than an upsell. Some sand loss is unavoidable during any effective cleaning; the difference is whether the company puts it back.
Do I need to re-sand after cleaning?
Almost always, yes. Joint sand is what keeps the units interlocked and stops weeds and ants establishing themselves. Cleaning without re-sanding leaves a patio that looks great for a season and then starts shifting.
What is the white haze on my pavers?
Most likely efflorescence — mineral salts migrating up through the paver and depositing on the surface as moisture evaporates. It is common on newer installations and is a different problem from dirt or algae. It needs a specific efflorescence treatment, not more pressure.
Should I seal my pavers?
Sealing locks the joint sand, deepens the colour, and makes future cleaning easier — but it needs reapplication every few years and must go onto a properly cleaned, fully dry surface. It is optional. If your pavers are around a pool, ask specifically about slip characteristics of the sealer being proposed.
Can you remove weeds and ants from between pavers?
Weeds and ant hills are cleared from the joints as part of the service, and fresh polymeric sand makes it harder for them to come back. It suppresses regrowth rather than eliminating it permanently — anything growing from below the paver bed will eventually find its way up again.
